Personalised Bedtime Stories vs Traditional Books: When Each One Shines

29 September 2026 · Lotty Coy

Traditional picture books are treasures. The favourites get read so many times they become part of the family — the rhythm of the words itself becomes a lullaby. For comfort, familiarity and beautiful illustration, nothing replaces them.

Personalised bedtime stories do a different job. They meet your child where they are tonight — with today's feelings, today's small victories, today's wobbles. A custom story can name the exact thing your child is chewing on and hand it back to them softened and story-shaped.

A good rhythm many families find: a familiar book most nights, and a personalised story on the days that need one — the first day at a new school, the friendship tangle, the brave thing they did. Those are the nights a story about their own day lands deepest.

And if you make the story together — your child choosing the animal hero, the place, the feeling — the making becomes part of the bedtime ritual too.
